A horrific road accident took place yesterday on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. In which the son and daughter-in-law of UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi, who were travelling in a Mercedes, were injured. The pictures of this accident are a witness to how terrible this accident was. The car was shattered after hitting the divider. The front bonnet and engine compartment were badly damaged and the engine fell far away on the road. It was a blessing that Abhishek and his wife Krishnaika, who were travelling in the car, escaped unhurt. They are currently undergoing treatment.
How the accident happened:
It is being told that Minister Nand Gopal Nandi’s son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Krishnaika were going from Delhi to Lucknow in their Mercedes AMG E-53 sedan car on Tuesday evening (30 July). It was also raining during this time. The car suddenly skidded at the cut of Kannauj and Tirwa on the expressway and hit the divider. The collision was so severe that the front part of the car was completely damaged and the engine came out and fell away.

The scene was horrifying:
After this accident, the scene on the expressway was horrific. The bonnet and engine compartment of the car were completely damaged. The engine, axle and tyres fell far away on the road. The glass of the car was broken and scattered on the road. The airbags inside the car were deployed and Abhishek and his wife Krishnaika were sitting in a distraught state on the side of the road. During this time, another picture has surfaced in which Abhishek is talking to someone on the phone. It is possible that he might be informing someone about the accident.

After this accident, Cabinet Minister Nand Gopal Nandi wrote on the social networking site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “Both son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Krishnaika are safe, although there are some injuries, which are being treated under the supervision of doctors. Seeing the horror of the pictures, it seems as if Mahadev himself appeared in person and averted some untoward incident!”

As we told you, this is a Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Four-Matic sedan car. The car that caused the accident is a 2-year-old model. The current model is priced at around Rs 1.06 crore (ex-showroom). In this luxury petrol-hybrid sedan, the company has given a 3.0-liter capacity 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine. Which is connected to a 48V onboard electrical system. This engine generates 320Hp of power and 520Nm of torque.
Since this is a hybrid car, it also has an electric motor of 120 kW capacity. The company claims that this car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Its high-voltage battery gives the car an additional range of about 90 to 100 km.
These safety features are available:
There are many advanced features inside the cabin of the car, but this car is also equipped with better technology in terms of safety. This sedan car equipped with 7 airbags has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. This car has safety features like 360 degree camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors, drive away assist, active parking assist, active brake assist, radar-based driver assistance system with mono camera, collision warning (audio and visual), autonomous emergency braking, adjustable warning times (early, medial and late) and active bonnet.
Pre-Safe System:
Mercedes Benz has also provided a Pre-Safe system in its E-Class sedan. The company says that in case of any accident, this system alerts the driver by giving various signals. This system responds quickly during emergency braking, critical steering movement, rapid switching from accelerator pedal to brake pedal. Apart from this, it improves the tension of the front seat-belt by recording the behavior of the vehicle. This system moves the front passenger seat to a more favorable position in case of any kind of impact.
Airbags for legs:
This car also has a knee airbag for the safety of the lower part of the body of the passengers i.e. the legs. This airbag is installed in the lower part of the dashboard which gets activated immediately during any collision and protects the passenger’s legs from contact with the steering column or instrument panel in a severe frontal crash. The company says that this airbag can prevent or reduce the severity of the injury. This airbag cushion deploys in milliseconds and stabilizes the entire body. Not only this, it also ensures that the entire restraint system including the seat belt works properly.
How a car airbag works:
As soon as an accident occurs, the nitrogen gas already installed in the SRS system fills the airbag. This entire process happens in a blink of an eye i.e. in a few milliseconds. After this, the airbag inflates and provides safety to the passenger with better cushioning. Holes are provided in the airbag which expel the gas after being deployed. During all this process, the strength of the car’s body is also taken care of. So that during any crash, the person sitting inside the car does not suffer much and the car itself bears maximum impact energy, for this the car’s body is made of strong metal.
