Now questions are being raised about safe travel in trains. Will the people traveling in trains reach their destination safely or not, will the train fall victim to an accident? This concern has started troubling the common people. Because during the tenure of the current Railway Minister, who made a video on safety cover for passengers, 2 passenger trains and 1 goods train are getting derailed every month.

The guarantee of safety of people’s lives in Indian Railways has once again derailed along with the train. The coaches of Indian Railways, which have been praised for being provided with a safety cover since God knows how long, have derailed, but the train derails every time. The common man’s trust in safety is derailed. The trust of reaching home safely is shattered and like the coaches on the tracks, the trust that the train in which the people have the money to travel will also be safe.

17 people died in train accidents in 6 weeks

In 6 weeks, train accidents in the country have claimed 17 lives. Jharkhand has witnessed the third rail accident in 6 months. This time 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail have derailed, it is claimed that the coaches of a goods train that had already derailed near the track could be the reason for the accident. In this accident, 2 passengers have died and more than 20 have been injured.

131 railway accidents happened in last 3 years

According to the information given by the Railways through RTI, from 7 July 2021 to 17 June 2024, 131 train accidents have occurred in the country, out of which 92 are train derailment incidents. These accidents include 64 passenger trains and 28 freight trains, in the last three years, 2 passenger trains and 1 freight train have derailed every month.

Trains derailed 8 times in the last 14 days

If we talk about the month of July only, Chandigarh-Dibrugarh rail accident took place on 18th July in which 4 people died and 31 people were injured. On 19th July a goods train derailed in Valsad, Gujarat, on 20th July 12 coaches of goods train derailed in Amroha, UP. On 21st July 3 coaches of goods train derailed in Alwar, Rajasthan. On 21st July itself a goods train derailed in Ranaghat, West Bengal. On 26th July a goods train derailed in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on 29th July coaches of Bihar Sampark Kranti got separated in Samastipur, Bihar and on 30th July a passenger train going from Howrah to Mumbai derailed in Chakradharpur, Jharkhand.

Kavach system installed on only 2% of rail routes

Now the common man has started asking whether the railways, which writes ‘Happy Journey’ on the ticket, really wants the public’s journey to be happy or not. Because so far, the Kavach system has been installed on only 2% of the rail routes, which claims that the train can be saved from collision. That means more than 97% of the Indian railway network has not yet been equipped with the anti-collision system. In such a situation, the question arises that for how many years should the common man endure collisions while waiting for Rail Kavach?

1.5 lakh posts are vacant in railways

Another reality of the railways is that according to RTI, about 1.5 lakh posts responsible for security are lying vacant in the railways. According to RTI, posts like track maintainer, pointsman, electric signal maintainer and signalling supervisor are lying vacant in the railways. If trains running on the tracks keep derailing due to incomplete security preparations, then who will guarantee safety to the common man?

Rs 1100 crore allocated for Rail Kavach

This time around Rs 1100 crore has been allocated for Rail Kavach in Indian Railways. It is claimed that more than Rs 45 thousand crore is required for Rail Kavach on all routes. According to this, the opposition says that it will take several decades to install a system to protect trains from collision on every route. So will the lives of the public be considered cheap till then?
