Recently a strange incident came to light in Yamagarni village of Nipani taluk of Belgaum district of Karnataka. The local people took a black dog around wearing garlands of flowers and organised a feast in its honour. The return of the lost dog was a miracle for the villagers.
The dog went with the owner
The dog, fondly called ‘Maharaj’, got lost in the crowd at the pilgrim town of Pandharpur in south Maharashtra but returned to his village in Belagavi in north Karnataka after travelling nearly 250 km on his own. In the last week of June, when ‘Maharaj’s’ owner Kamlesh Kumbhar set out on the annual ‘wari padyatra’ in Pandharpur, he accompanied him.
Kumbhar said that he goes to Pandharpur every year on the occasion of Ashadh Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi. He said that this time too the dog went with him. Kumbhar said that ‘Maharaj’ (dog) always likes to listen to bhajans. Once he accompanied me on a padyatra to Jyotiba temple near Mahabaleshwar. The dog accompanied his master and his friends for about 250 kilometers.
was separated from the owner
Kumbhar said that after visiting the Vithoba temple, he found that the dog was missing. He said that when he started looking for the dog, people there told him that he had gone with another group. Kumbhar said, “I still searched for him everywhere, but I could not find him, so I thought that maybe people were right that he had gone with someone else. I returned to my hometown on July 14.”
missing dog returns home
Kumbhar expressed surprise and said that the very next day ‘Maharaj’ was standing in front of my house wagging his tail as if nothing had happened. He ate and drank well and looked absolutely fine. He said that it is a miracle that a lost dog returned home after being lost about 250 kilometers away from home. We believe that Lord Pandurang guided him.
