On Saturday, a student and two girl students died due to water logging in a coaching centre running in the basement in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. After this accident, the action of Delhi Police and Delhi Municipal Corporation is continuing. So far 19 centers have been sealed. At the same time, the driver of the Thar car that passed at high speed outside the coaching center before the accident was also arrested by the police and presented in the court, where Delhi Police opposed the bail plea of the accused and said that the car driver is a fun-loving person and the accident happened due to his fun. The court has reserved the decision after hearing the arguments of both the parties.
In fact, after the accident, a CCTV footage revealed that a Thar car had passed through the water-filled road outside the coaching centre at a high speed. It was only after this that water started entering the coaching centre because the gate of the centre was broken due to the pressure of water. On the basis of the video, the police arrested the driver of the Thar as an accused and presented him in the court on Tuesday. The accused sought bail from the court, which was opposed by the Delhi Police.
‘The institution itself is guilty, how can a third party be made the accused?’
During the hearing in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, both the parties presented their arguments. During this, the accused’s lawyer argued that he was just driving the car. It is difficult to drive a car in such a situation, while they (police) say that the car moved at such a high speed.
They are trying to make him the main accused and the main culprit. What option did I have? Should I have knocked on every door and asked if I could take my car from there? According to them, speeding is a crime here. Did they arrest me for negligent driving? No. People are hoping that the real culprit will be caught. Now the hope is from the court. The institution itself is guilty. How can a third party be made the accused? Notice has been issued to MCD officials. Why was I not given a notice?
Accused may influence witnesses: Police
On the other hand, Delhi Police protested and said that the case is still in its very initial stage. Whenever we see waterlogging, we slow down our vehicles. But the accused did not do so. He must have thought that nothing will happen to me. He did not apply the brake. Look at the waves (in the video). If he had stopped there, the waves would not have risen. He is a local. He can influence other people, who are weak witnesses.
Why is the police not arresting the right people: Lawyer
On this, the accused driver’s lawyer said that is Delhi Police arresting people who have nothing to do with the case? Why is Delhi Police releasing people who are actually responsible? The driver’s lawyer requested the court to see the video on the basis of which he was arrested. The lawyer said that the brake lights are constantly on. Is driving a car a crime? The car was not a tractor. With all due respect, I am unable to understand how I can know all this being a local. I request the court to pay attention to the investigation so that innocent people are not caught. He has also sought bail on medical grounds.
On the other hand, the Delhi Police lawyer says that he needs time to see the medical documents. On this, the defense lawyer said that the children are still in Delhi, the coaching is closed. They are on the road. Did the coaching people return the money, did the PG people return the money? What about these children. I don’t understand why the police is not catching the right people. The defense lawyer said that look, our brake light is on. My client is unwell. This is not a tractor-like vehicle, it is a Thar-like vehicle. Nowadays even Mercedes has two silencers. This vehicle has two silencers in different directions, so what is wrong?
