Everything becomes easy during elections. Even if it is about getting US citizenship. Presidential elections are to be held in the US and before that, in simple words, a big scheme has come up. If you are a green card holder, you will get US citizenship in just three weeks and you will also be able to vote in the presidential elections.

Shekhar Narasimhan, president and founder of Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI), says that under the Joe Biden administration, eligible green card holders can acquire citizenship in just three weeks. Elections are to be held in the US on November 5. It is believed that the Biden administration has taken this step to increase its voter base before that.

Lakhs of Indians are waiting to get citizenship

Data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Service shows that millions of Indians are hoping to get a green card. Many highly skilled professionals from India, including doctors, engineers and scientists, may have to wait for decades to gain citizenship in the US.

What is Green Card?

The Green Card is considered proof of official permanent residence in the US, and this card confirms that the card holder is a permanent citizen of the US. Shekhar Narasimhan said, “If you have a Green Card and have been living in the US for five years, you can acquire citizenship. This is the time to register to vote.”

Five year stay is mandatory for citizenship

The AAPI Victory Fund works to strengthen political influence among the Asian American Pacific Islander community. Narasimhan said Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy for president has generated a lot of enthusiasm among Indian-Americans, Asian-Americans and other groups. He said that to be eligible for citizenship, green card holders must live in the US for at least five years.
