Sometimes something is found in a ruin, cave, mountain or river that is historical. Many times people have found years old letters or important messages inside bottles floating in the sea. Recently something similar happened once again. A metal detectorist told on Reddit how he found an interesting but heartbreaking thing inside the sand on the seashore.

Jar found 6 inches below the sand

According to the heartwarming post, the man was walking on the Oregon beach when his scanner beeped when he detected something buried under the sand. After digging, he found something 6 inches below the sand.

The detectorist dug around and found a jar with a note and a small bundle inside. At first she thought it was a treasure map, but later she read the note to realize the small bundle contained the ashes of a young man who had died a decade ago. It read, “These are the ashes of my son, Steven Genberg. If found, please treat them with respect and return them. Thank you. A grieving mother.”

The man cried after reading the letter

The detectorist respected the wishes of the grieving parents. He wrote on Reddit – ‘Yes, I put them back’. The man said that he became emotional after reading this and started crying. He said that probably the boy’s ashes would have been kept in all his favorite places. People started commenting a lot on this post. One wrote – How sad it is to lose your child.

This is how he died 10 years ago

The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Steven Genberg, who died in a collision with a police cruiser in British Columbia. He was reportedly expecting a child with his girlfriend at the time. Many people wondered how the remains of the deceased did not float away into the sea. To this the man replied – the lid was painted metal with a plastic liner on the threads so that it would be easy to open without any rust and it would also not dissolve in water.
