‘In India, 50 thousand people die every year due to snake bites…’, said BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Lok Sabha

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Saran Lok Sabha seat of Bihar, spoke on a very important issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday. He said, “Every year in the country, about 50 thousand people die due to snake bites, which is the highest in the world.”

Expressing concern over the death rate due to snake bites, MP Rajeev said that every year 30 to 40 lakh people are bitten by snakes across India. Bihar is the poorest state, which is struggling with both poverty and natural disasters. 30 to 40 lakh people are bitten by snakes across India and 50 thousand people die, which is the highest in the world.

He stressed that many deaths are preventable. He pointed to the impact of climate change on snakebite incidence at temperatures above 28 degrees Celsius.

M Kathir Anand, DMK MP from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, expressed his concern over the plight of beedi workers, most of whom were women. He demanded a hike in their wages, citing inadequate central funds. Corruption in Integrated Child Development Scheme?

Shiromani Akali Dal MP from Punjab’s Bathinda Lok Sabha seat Harsimrat Kaur Badal raised concern about corruption in the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Supplementary Nutrition Programme in Punjab and claimed that fake beneficiaries were allegedly receiving assistance through private entities.

“I want to draw the attention of the Ministry of Women and Child Development to the fact that there is corruption in the ICDS Supplementary Nutrition Programme in Punjab where fake beneficiaries are being given assistance through private organisations,” she said, demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

She also said that 28 lakh Anganwadi workers are paid only Rs 2,200 per month, calling it below the standard, and demanded justice for mothers and children.

Congress MP opposed NEET

Congress MP from Karur, Tamil Nadu, S Jothimani opposed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Discussing the socio-economic inequality caused by the exam, Jothimani said, “We are sure that only those who can afford it can pass NEET, because it costs Rs 25 lakh to buy the question paper.”

He said that about 18 students in Tamil Nadu have committed suicide due to NEET.
Jothimani stressed that fewer students from rural areas have been admitted since the introduction of NEET. He urged to remove ‘this rot’ from the education system.

Demand for President’s rule in Jharkhand

BJP MP from Godda Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand, Nishikant Dubey, claimed that the rights of tribals are being violated by ‘Bangladeshi immigrants’. He referred to an incident in which tribals were allegedly beaten up when they tried to protest.

Nishikant Dubey said, “Adivasis were trying to protest in Jharkhand because Bangladeshis had taken away their rights and the police beat them up.” The BJP MP accused the state government of settling Bangladeshis in Jharkhand and demanded imposition of President’s rule.
