The court also convicted Afzal’s brother Mukhtar Ansari and sentenced him to 10 years in jail. After this, Afzal became disqualified as an MP after which he filed an appeal in the High Court.

The decision was reserved on July 4

The High Court granted bail to Afzal on 24 July 2023, but refused to stay his conviction in this case. Due to which he was released from jail, but his membership of the Parliament was not restored.
