A town was established after the Bhopal gas leak incident
Arif Aqeel was successful in building his image among the public after the Union Carbide gas leak accident in Bhopal in 1984. He established a town called Arif Nagar at some distance from the factory. The victims of the gas tragedy and their families were settled at this place.
While being a minister in the Congress government, Arif Aqeel also worked hard to get compensation for the people affected by the gas tragedy. Bhopal North seat has around 54 percent Muslim votes, but there are also a good number of voters from the Sindhi community.
