Locals say that every year in the month of Sawan, Mother Alaknanda herself performs the Jalabhishek of Lord Koteshwar Mahadev.

Devotees are not able to have darshan in the cave

It is noteworthy that devotees from distant places are reaching to visit the cave of Koteshwar Bhagwan, but due to the cave being submerged, devotees are not able to have darshan in the cave.

The temple is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River. There is a popular story regarding the temple.

It is believed that the Shivlinga installed in the temple is naturally formed, here Lord Shankar is worshipped in the form of Koteshwar, here the Shivlinga of Lord Koteshwar is situated inside a cave. Koteshwar Mahadev Temple is located about 3-4 km from Rudraprayag city of Uttarakhand.

The temple is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River. The popular story about the temple is that in ancient times Lord Shiva stayed in this cave while going to Kedarnath. There are idols of Goddess Parvati, Ganesh Ji, Hanuman Ji as well as other gods and goddesses around the temple. Let us tell you that every year thousands of devotees reach here on Mahashivratri and many Shiva devotees come here to visit during the month of Sawan too.
