The country’s general budget (Budget 2024) has been presented. The government has presented its roadmap for the next five years from tax to all government schemes. After the budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman joined Aaj Tak’s associate channel India Today-Business Today Round Table 2024 and talked openly about each announcement of the budget. Veteran investor Vijay Kedia was also present in this program and he put his question in front of the Finance Minister in a very special way, which is going viral on social media. Actually, he talked about tax on dividend by singing a song in front of the Finance Minister. Let’s see what was special in this song…

The famous investor sang a song for the Finance Minister
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the India Today-Business Today Budget Round Table 2024 on Saturday and cleared the picture on all the questions related to the budget. During this, when veteran investor Vijay Kedia, who was present in the program, was invited to ask a question, Kedia, standing with a mic in his hand, suddenly started singing a song in front of the Finance Minister. However, his question was also included in this song. Yes, perhaps you have never seen anyone singing a song in this style for any Finance Minister of the country before.

Questions raised regarding tax on dividend
If you look at the lyrics of Vijay Kedia’s song, they were ‘Madam, why are you repeatedly demanding tax on dividends…’ Yes, the investor expressed his concern about the tax on dividends to the finance minister. He also mentioned the goal of Modi 3.0 in his song and said, ‘Madam is sitting to take away all the worries… India is ready to become a 10 trillion dollar economy.’ On listening to his song, not only the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, but everyone present there was seen smiling.

Finance minister started clapping
While presenting this song, Vijay Kedia also told the Finance Minister that he had written this song about 3 years ago and today he has got the opportunity to sing it. After listening to his song full of questions, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also could not stop herself from clapping. When the host of the program, Rahul Kanwal, asked the Finance Minister if anyone had ever sung a song like this for her before, she shook her head and said, ‘Never…’

Understand what is dividend like this
It is worth noting that Vijay Kedia is counted among the leading stock market investors of the country and he has been working in this sector for about 3 decades. Now talking about the issue raised by him through the song, let us first understand what is this Dividend? Actually, many companies can distribute a part of their profit among their shareholders and this part distributed from the company’s profit is called dividend.

For example, if the face value of a company’s share is Rs 10 and the company declares a dividend of Rs 10 per share, then it means that the company is giving 100% dividend. Whereas if the same company declares a dividend of Rs 20 per share, then it is giving 200% dividend to the investors.

How is tax levied on Dividend
Talking about the tax on dividends, if an investor investing in the stock market gets a dividend of more than Rs 5,000 from the company, then TDS is deducted on it. That is, if the investor gets a dividend of Rs 10,000, then 10 percent TDS is deducted on this dividend under Section 194 of Income Tax. On the other hand, if dividend is received on investment made in a foreign company, then different rules have been set for this. These are different for resident and non-resident. If the resident is an Indian, then tax will be levied on the dividend from the foreign company, while non-resident Indians are exempted from tax.
