World Head and Neck Cancer Day

World Head and Neck Cancer Day, About 26 percent of cancer patients in India have tumors (cancer) in the head and neck and such cases are increasing. This has been revealed in a study. This study was released on Saturday on World Head and Neck Cancer Day. This study has been done on 1869 cancer patients of the country. Delhi-based non-profit organization ‘Cancer Free India Foundation’ conducted this study by collecting data from calls received on its helpline number from March 1 to June 30.

It is a preventable cancer

Senior cancer specialist Dr Ashish Gupta, who is leading the Cancer Free India campaign, said that India is witnessing a rise in head and neck cancer cases, especially among the youth, due to increased tobacco consumption and ‘Human Papillomavirus (HPV)’ infection. Gupta said, “About 80-90 percent of oral cancer patients have been found to consume tobacco in some form, be it smoking or chewing khaini. Most head and neck cancers are preventable, unlike other cancers whose cause is unknown. It is a preventable cancer that can be prevented by changing lifestyle. “

Objective of Cancer Free India Campaign

“There is a need to raise awareness about quitting tobacco and early screening for early detection of the disease,” Gupta said. He said about two-thirds of cancer cases in India are detected late, possibly due to lack of proper screening. Gupta said the Cancer Free India campaign aims to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer in individuals and communities through education and early detection.
