9 years, 20 marriages, widows targeted… Man arrested for cheating women

Palghar police of Maharashtra has arrested a man who married more or less 20 women across the country and cheated them. Here a woman from Nalla Sopara had complained, after which the police arrested the man. He has been identified as Firoz Niaz Sheikh, who used to befriend widowed women online and cheat them by marrying them.

Palghar police arrested Firoz Sheikh on July 23. The woman from Nalla Sopara had alleged that Firoz had befriended her on a matrimonial site and later married her. In her complaint, the woman had alleged that she gave Rs 6.5 lakh and valuables to Firoz between October and November 2023 but she had no idea that she was being cheated.

Police seized laptops, mobiles and many other things

Vijaysinh Bhagal, senior inspector of Palghar police, confirmed that an FIR has been registered in connection with the case under sections of the IPC. The police have seized several items from Sheikh, including laptops, mobile phones, debit and credit cards, cheque books and jewellery, which are believed to have been fraudulently acquired by Firoz.

He had 20 weddings across the country

When the police started investigating the woman’s complaint, it was found that Firoz Sheikh had married not once or twice but 20 times. He has married in many states including Maharashtra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and has allegedly cheated many women.

The man has been cheating women since 2015

According to the police, Firoz first befriended widowed women on matrimonial sites. He would win their trust and marry them. After this, he would cheat them, take money from them and get valuables. He was doing this kind of fraud since 2015. However, now the police have arrested him and sent him behind bars.
