The police has been given a clean chit in the murder of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf. The investigation commission has said in its report that it was not possible to prevent the incident and the incident was not the result of police negligence. Also, the murder was not pre-planned. Let us tell you that on April 15, 2023, Atiq-Ashraf were shot dead by three shooters with 14 bullets in 9 seconds outside Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj. Important information has come out from the report of the judicial commission constituted in this case.

On 14th and 15th April 2023, due to the deterioration in health of Atiq Ahmed, the private doctor who was called to the police station had advised regular medical checkup. A doctor was called to the Dhoomanganj police station to get Atiq and Ashraf checked up.

One night before the murder, i.e. on 14th April, Atiq and Ashraf were brought to the hospital at 10:37 pm and were taken back at 11:07 pm. The next day, on 15th April, at 10:36 pm, Atiq and Ashraf reached the hospital gate. Whereas, shooter Lovelesh Tiwari had reached the hospital at 9:09 PM that night. 20 minutes later, at 9.29 PM, Arun Maurya and Sunny reached the hospital together.
As soon as Atiq and Ashraf reached the hospital gate, Sunny went to the Sulabh Shauchalay in the hospital premises for 8 seconds and then immediately came out and reached his companions. All this happened till the arrival of the shooters and the murder took place one and a half hours later. The first shot on Atiq was fired by Lovelesh Tiwari at 10:36:24.
Know what happened minute by minute?
The first shooter, Lovelesh Tiwari, enters the hospital gate at 9:09:31 seconds. Then he sits on the bench under the tree near the e-registration counter. After 4 minutes, Lovelesh gets restless and goes out of the hospital gate at 9:13:27 seconds and comes back to the hospital just 1 minute later at 9:14:14 seconds.
After 10 minutes, i.e. at 9:24:54 seconds, Lovelesh again goes out of the hospital and comes inside after 5 minutes at 9:29:50 seconds. Meanwhile, at 9:29:18 seconds, Sunny and Arun Maurya come to the hospital and head towards the emergency ward.
Lovelesh Tiwari arrives at the hospital 32 seconds after his companions Sunny and Arun. At first, Lovelesh sits separately from Sunny and Arun, then at 9:33:12 seconds, Sunny and Arun get up from the stairs near the registration counter and sit next to Lovelesh on the bench next to the Sulabh toilet.
The first shot on Atiq and Ashraf was fired by Lovelesh Tiwari at 10:36:24 seconds. Meanwhile, Sunny quickly throws away his mic ID and at 10:36:20 takes out his pistol and starts firing. At 10:36:28 seconds, all three shooters, i.e. Arun, Sunny and Lovelesh are seen firing together.
The first shot was fired at Atiq Ahmed at 10:36:24 seconds. A total of 14 rounds were fired in 9 seconds. At 10:36:50 seconds, i.e. within 26 seconds of the shot being fired, the police caught the shooters Sunny, Arun and Lovelesh and took them away in a jeep.
The police did not have time to intervene
The murder took place in nine seconds, leaving no time for the police to intervene. The report also mentioned that the police had deployed more personnel than the standard to protect Atiq and Ashraf. Security was tight from the jail to the remand. However, the presence of the media hindered the work of the police and questions were raised about the activities of media persons during the murder.
Why did the attackers kill?
The inquiry commission also threw light on the motive of the attackers, who carried out the murder of Atiq and Ashraf in the presence of the media to gain notoriety. The incident also led to the loss of several crucial information to the police, such as Atiq and Ashraf’s links with terrorist organisations and the ISI. The commission’s report made it clear that there was no involvement of the police and the state machinery in the murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf. It was a pre-planned conspiracy that could not have been avoided. The report also presented detailed details on the role of the media and the promptness of the police.
