On 14 August 1947, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru announced India’s independence from the then Parliament House. In his speech ‘Tryst with Destiny’, Nehru spoke about the new India after independence. There was a wave of happiness everywhere. The whole of India reached the Parliament House to witness this historic moment. That was the first time when India’s independence was celebrated. The speech that Nehru gave that night is still considered the greatest speech of the 20th century. On 15 August 2024, India will celebrate independence once again. People are confused whether the coming 15 August 2024 will be the 77th anniversary of independence or the 78th. Let’s know why this is so?

Which Independence Day will India celebrate this year?

The country became independent on 15 August 1947 and one year later, that is, on 15 August 1948, the first anniversary of independence was celebrated. If we look from 1948 to 2024, this year India is celebrating the 77th anniversary of independence but it has been 78 years since India got independence. This year India is celebrating its 78th independence day.

On 15 August 2024, India is fully prepared to celebrate 78 years of independence. Preparations are going on everywhere. The theme of 15 August this year is ‘Developed India. The main objective of this theme is to realize the dream of the Prime Minister to make India a developed country by the year 2047. A country that will be truly independent in every way. Along with this, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign started by Prime Minister Modi will also complete 3 years. This year also, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has started from 9 August and will continue till 15 August. The sole objective of the government behind starting this campaign was to awaken the feeling of patriotism in the minds of the people towards the country and the honor of the country.

Let us tell you that like every year, this time also on 15th August, Prime Minister Modi will hoist the tricolor at the Red Fort and address the whole country. This is the first Independence Day of PM Modi‘s third term, along with this, PM Modi will give his 11th address from the Red Fort on 15th August this year. In this address, PM Modi talks about the development taking place in the country, the civilization and culture of the country. Along with this, along with the countrymen, he will remember all those martyrs and revolutionaries and pay tribute to them.
