77 hours of interrogation, three shocks in 24 hours, the investigation of Kolkata case has come to a halt on Sandeep Ghosh

In the Kolkata case, the troubles of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, are increasing continuously and new fronts are opening against him every day. On Wednesday, Sandeep Ghosh got the first big shock when the High Court rejected his petition. Dr. Ghosh had pleaded to stop the publication and broadcast of news about him in the media. After that, the second big shock came from the Bengal government. The government has canceled the transfer order of Dr. Ghosh. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police has also intensified its crackdown on Sandeep Ghosh. The police has now summoned Dr. Ghosh in the case of revealing the identity of the deceased female doctor. However, he could not appear due to CBI interrogation and has asked for another date.

In fact, the body of a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was recovered from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the night of August 9. The doctor had injury marks on her body and was bleeding. Investigation revealed that the doctor was raped and then murdered. The police arrested the accused Sanjay Roy and sent him to jail. The incident caused resentment among the doctors and they went on strike. The Kolkata High Court transferred the investigation of the case from the police to the CBI. The CBI has been investigating the case for 8 days. Dr. Ghosh was appointed as the principal of the hospital in 2021.

Sandip Ghosh was questioned for 77 hours in 6 days

CBI questioned Sandeep Ghosh for 13 hours on Wednesday as well. A total of 77 hours of questioning has been done so far. But answers to many questions are yet to be found. According to sources, Ghosh was asked whether he had insisted on conducting the post-mortem of the deceased at RG Kar Medical College? Did he not allow it anywhere else? The source said, Ghosh’s answer will be re-examined. Dr. Ghosh has been facing questions from the CBI for six days in this case. On Wednesday, the CBI team again reached RG Kar Medical College and searched for the former principal’s car. The driver of the car was also questioned. Forensic experts examined the vehicle to know the details of its activities. CBI also questioned the hospital superintendent Bulbul Mukherjee and the new vice principal. At the same time, resident doctors are also not ready to back down and have opened a front against Dr. Ghosh. Earlier, the Supreme Court had also raised questions on the working style of Sandeep Ghosh and reprimanded everyone from the hospital administration to the government.

Sandeep is accused of dealing in unclaimed bodies

Here, Sandeep Ghosh has now been accused of dealing in unclaimed bodies, selling biomedical waste, irregularities in appointments and commission-bribery. These allegations have been made by Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College. He has filed a petition in the High Court and demanded ED action against former Principal Sandeep Ghosh. Ali says that during Ghosh’s tenure, there were many financial irregularities in the functioning of the institution. It is alleged that former Principal Ghosh was also involved in many unethical activities and corruption. Students were deliberately failed, then money was taken in the name of passing them. He said that I also complained about this to the Vigilance Committee. I also became a part of the investigation. But I was transferred just two hours after giving the final report. Even after the complaint, no action was taken against Sandeep Ghosh.

Was Sanjay Roy, accused of brutality, Sandeep’s bouncer?

In a special conversation with Aaj Tak, the former Deputy Superintendent of the hospital, Akhtar Ali, has also claimed that Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the brutality of the female doctor, was involved in the security of former Principal Sandeep Ghosh and worked as a bouncer. That is, the whole case is getting deeper due to the allegations of direct link between accused Sanjay and Sandeep Ghosh. Akhtar Ali says that after this brutality, when I saw the picture of accused Sanjay Roy, I remembered that this person was one of the 4 bouncers of Sandeep Ghosh. I have seen him with Sandeep Ghosh. Akhtar Ali said that when I was working there, no one was allowed to go near the seminar room or nursing staff at night. There was security at every point. CCTV cameras were installed, but a volunteer enters the room at night and such a big incident happens. This is beyond comprehension. This could be a big conspiracy.

Sandip Ghosh’s troubles are increasing

Here, Sandeep Ghosh is facing setbacks from the court to the health department. Links of all the cases are also being linked to Sandeep. The police is already preparing for interrogation in the corruption case. A four-member SIT has been formed by the Bengal government to investigate the financial irregularities and an FIR has been lodged against Dr. Ghosh at Talatala Police Station in Kolkata.

What shock did Sandeep get from the High Court?

Former Principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh has received a setback from the Calcutta High Court. The High Court has rejected Ghosh’s petition in which he had pleaded to stop the publication of news about him in the media. Ghosh had alleged ‘media trial’ in the petition. Rejecting the petition, the court said that the media ensures that the individuals, that is, the citizens of the society, fulfill their responsibility towards the society by participating in a sensitive matter of national importance. In this case, the incident that happened in Kolkata has acquired the status of global importance. Thus, the right to information will be fundamental in this case, because every citizen and every member of the society is seriously affected by this incident directly or indirectly.

What shock did the health department give?

The Mamata government has accepted the demands of the junior doctors and has ordered the removal of four senior officials including RG Kar Medical College Principal Dr Suharitha Paul. State Health Secretary NS Nigam said, as per the demand of the striking doctors, former Principal of RG Kar Hospital Dr Sandeep Ghosh has been removed from the post. Sandeep Ghosh was transferred as Principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital on August 12 after the brutal incident at RG Kar Medical College.

Apart from this, three senior officials of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have also been transferred. Medical Superintendent and Deputy Principal Professor Dr. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay has been removed with immediate effect and Saptarshi Chatterjee has been appointed in his place. Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay has been made the new principal of RG Kar Medical College. He will replace Dr. Suhrita Paul. Dr. Paul has been made the principal of Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital. Head of Chest Medicine Department Arunabh Dutta Chaudhary has been transferred to Malda Medical College and Hospital. Nigam said, as per the demand of junior doctors, we are going to make some changes. We have no objection. We want the situation to be normal and health services to be regular. Security arrangements have also been increased.

Striking doctors are taking out a march in Kolkata

Meanwhile, senior doctors, nurses and thousands of doctors from the state’s medical colleges again marched to the health building on Wednesday and gheraoed the campus. After that, the top officials of the department met the delegation of protesters. The resident doctors presented their side and submitted a memorandum. A junior doctor said that our newly appointed principal Dr. Surhita Pal has gone missing. She is considered our guardian, but she has not come to the campus since the night the hospital was vandalized. We have heard that she is working from the health building, so we are going there to locate her. The protesting doctors said that they are extremely disappointed with the attitude of the officials.

CBI will file status report in Supreme Court today

The central investigation agency CBI will file a status report in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The court had asked the CBI to submit the progress report of the investigation two days ago. A day before this, the investigation team questioned Dr. Ghosh about the many discrepancies found in his statements. Within 8 days, the CBI has conducted psychological tests along with continuous questioning of the main accused of this case, Sanjay Roy. The CCTV videos of the hospital have been examined. It is being claimed that the CBI can further conduct a polygraph test of Sandeep Ghosh as well, because many of Sandeep Ghosh’s statements on many questions do not match with each other.

What questions did the Supreme Court raise?

The Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the Kolkata case. During the hearing two days ago, CJI DY Chandrachud asked, why was the principal made to join another college? The court said that we are also concerned about the victim’s identity being exposed. Showing the victim’s photo and her body after post-mortem is worrying. We are very concerned about the victim’s photos and name being circulated on social media. CJI said that the victim’s identity was revealed everywhere. Whereas this should not have happened. CJI asked the West Bengal government whether the principal had called the murder a suicide? Were the victim’s parents informed late? Were they not allowed to meet? SC asked the West Bengal government who would provide security to the doctors working in the hospital? The government said – police. On this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Center, said, no. CISF will provide. SC said okay. CISF will provide security. CJI said that Bengal Police is unable to provide security to RG Kar Hospital. In such a situation, we want that its security should be handed over to CISF.

The three-member bench headed by the CJI reprimanded the West Bengal government and the hospital administration. The CJI said that when the murder took place, the victim’s parents were not present there. It was the responsibility of the hospital management to register an FIR. The CJI asked why the FIR was registered late? What was the hospital administration doing? The CJI asked – what was the principal doing at that time? The victim’s body was also handed over to the parents late. The SC asked, who filed the FIR first and when. It was informed that the first FIR was registered in the case at 11.45 PM that night. The CJI said that the FIR was registered 3 hours and 30 minutes after the body was handed over to the parents.
