Thai authorities have revealed that the six tourists found dead in a luxury hotel room in Bangkok were likely poisoned by cyanide.

According to the police, the victims – three Vietnamese men and three Vietnamese women aged between 37 and 56 – were discovered by hotel staff after they missed their checkout time. Two of the deceased were American citizens of Vietnamese origin.

Autopsies revealed the presence of cyanide in the victims’ bodies, and further investigation found traces of the deadly substance in teacups and a tea flask in the room. Police believe one of the deceased may have been responsible for poisoning the others, potentially driven by financial disputes related to investments they had made together.

Authorities dismissed the possibility of a mass suicide, noting that the victims had scheduled activities with guides and drivers, indicating they had plans beyond consuming the cyanide. The bodies were found in different areas of the room, suggesting they did not ingest the poison collectively.

The tragic incident echoes a past case in 2023 where a serial killer known as ‘Am Cyanide’ used cyanide to end the lives of multiple individuals in Thailand over several years. However, police have clarified that this latest case is not linked to terrorism or a security breach.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of the six tourists at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in Bangkok.
