40 Chinese yaks crossed the border in Ladakh, Indian Army returned them

India has returned 40 Chinese yaks that had strayed into Indian territory near the Line of Actual Control near Ladakh to China. Along with this, the owners of these yaks have also been strictly warned not to enter Indian territory. This may actually be a part of China’s encroachment strategy, and China often makes such conspiracies.

Recently, 40 Chinese yaks had reportedly strayed into the Demchok area of eastern Ladakh. The incident was shared on social media on August 19 by Chushul Counsellor Konchok Tenzin, who said that when Indian animals stray into Chinese territory, they are not returned. However, India showed goodwill and returned the yaks to China.

China plots to encroach

The Indian Army informed the Chinese People’s Liberation Army about the incident as per established protocol and the yaks were returned the next day. China often uses such tactics to strengthen its claims on the LAC. Disputes over grazing areas have been common in Ladakh. The area is important for Indian tribal communities, whose cattle often graze here.

There was an increase in cases after 2020

Such cases have increased since the bloody clash between the Indian and Chinese armies on the LAC in 2020. The number of animals grazing in these areas had decreased from 56,000 in 2019 to 28,000 in 2021. However, this number has again increased to around 58,000 in recent years.

China adopts tactics to avoid direct conflict

There are about ten major grazing areas in Ladakh, including Chushul, Tara, Nyoma, Fukche, and Demchok, where Indian shepherds graze their animals. Amid tensions and confrontations, China is believed to be sending its shepherds and animals to Indian areas to avoid direct conflict, and yaks may also be a part of its strategy.
