10 days, 100 hours of interrogation and the CBI’s grip this is how former principal Sandip Ghosh got trapped in the Kolkata scandal

The CBI is tightening its grip on former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh. He has been questioned for 100 hours in the last 10 days. After this, on Saturday, the CBI has registered a case of financial irregularities against him. The CBI has taken over the investigation from the SIT formed by the West Bengal government on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court. Along with this, his polygraph test was conducted on Saturday at the CBI office, in which there is every possibility of his truth coming out.

The High Court had earlier handed over the investigation of the case of rape and murder of the lady doctor to the CBI. After this, to ensure a comprehensive and fair investigation, the investigation of the financial irregularities of Sandeep Ghosh was also handed over to the CBI. Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj said, “This court directs that the investigation be handed over to the CBI, as serious allegations are involved in this case.

The court had ordered a CBI inquiry on the petition of Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who had alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and demanded an ED inquiry. Akhtar Ali had filed a complaint with the West Bengal Police in July last year, but did not get justice.

Akhtar Ali had provided documentary evidence to substantiate his claims of rampant corruption, improper use of government funds, sale of used hazardous bio-medical waste and transfer of officials for monetary gain. It cited the serious impact of such illegal activities on public health and safety as well as misuse of public funds.

Allegations are being made against Sandeep Ghosh ever since the body of the lady doctor was found in the medical college on 8-9 August. After heavy pressure from junior doctors in this case, Mamata government removed him from his post and ordered an inquiry. After taking over the investigation of this case, CBI is continuously questioning him. CBI is also investigating his suspicious role in this case.

According to sources, Sandeep Ghosh was asked whether he had insisted on conducting the post-mortem of the deceased at RG Kar Medical College? Did he not allow it anywhere else? The CBI reached RG Kar Medical College and searched the former principal’s car. His driver was also questioned. Forensic experts examined his car to know the details of its movements.

The questions around which the CBI’s interrogation of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh is revolving are of some sort…

1. When and from whom did you get the information about the murder of a doctor in your hospital?

2. When you came to know that a female doctor was murdered in your hospital, what did you do?

3. After you were informed about the death of the lady doctor, where did you go and why did you disappear?

4. Did you try to find out whether the victim was alive or not?

5. When the death occurred in your own hospital premises, why did you not immediately lodge an FIR?

6. You know the protocol for protecting a crime scene. Why did you not take any measures for this?

7. Who all did you talk to after receiving the news of the death?

8. How did you come to know about the accused Sanjay Roy?

9. Have you ever met Sanjay Roy or talked to him on the phone?

10. When the murder took place in a hospital, why did you allow renovation near the crime scene?

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also raised questions on the working style of Sandeep Ghosh and reprimanded everyone from the hospital administration to the government. He has been accused of dealing in unclaimed bodies, selling biomedical waste, irregularities in appointments and taking commission and bribes. It is even alleged that Sandeep Ghosh was involved in many unethical activities. Like students were deliberately failed.

After this, money was taken from them in the name of getting them passed. Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of the medical college, has also claimed that Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the brutality against the female doctor, was involved in the security of Sandeep Ghosh. He used to work as his bouncer. That is, this whole case is getting deeper due to the allegations of a direct link between the accused Sanjay and Sandeep Ghosh.

Akhtar Ali had said in an interview, “After this brutality, when I saw the picture of the accused Sanjay Roy, I remembered that this person was one of the four bouncers of Sandeep Ghosh. I have seen him with Sandeep Ghosh. When I was working there, no one was allowed to go near the seminar room or the nursing staff at night. There was security at every point. CCTV cameras were installed.”
